As the Pacific Northwest experiences record-breaking rainfall, the outlook for Spokane's weather remains uncertain. While the city is expected to see less flooding than other areas of Western Washington, residents should still be prepared for potential disruptions.

According to meteorologists, Spokane can expect a 30-50% chance of receiving more than 2 inches of rain over the next 10 days. In contrast, Stevens Pass has an 80% chance of gaining more than 12 inches, and Lookout Pass has an 80% chance of gaining more than 6 inches.

As the weather pattern shifts, snow is expected to impact some of the passes between Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, mountain areas in Washington and Idaho's Panhandle will see periods of snow on Thursday as temperatures drop and rain tapers off.

Despite the changing forecast, Spokane residents should remain cautious of accumulating water in low-lying areas with poor drainage. Additionally, colder temperatures are expected to arrive soon, making it essential for people to watch their surroundings.

Interestingly, higher-elevation areas have received at least 2 inches of rain, with parts of northeast Washington receiving even more. In Spokane itself, the area saw one-half to three-quarters of an inch of rain between 2 pm and Tuesday evening. This recent rainfall has been a welcome relief, as the soil was able to absorb the moisture quickly due to its dry condition.

While some initial concerns about flooding were raised, meteorologists have downgraded the flood watch after observing changes in the weather pattern on Tuesday. As snow melts and rain continues to fall, it's not enough to warrant alarm for Spokane residents, according to Steven Van Horn, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
